Anne Southworth (McFarland), 84, of Oberlin passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 at Kendal at Oberlin. She was born March 12, 1940, in Cleveland, the daughter of Edward and Barbara Anne (Eberth) Southworth.
Anne was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. As an attorney, she devoted much of her life to children’s advocacy, especially of foster children, and became a foster mother herself. Anne was also a Law Librarian and Professor of Legal Writing and Research at the University of Akron, and in retirement was a legal researcher at the Cuyahoga County Law Library. She was very active in clubs and charitable organizations, notably serving with the Heights Community Congress and the League of Women Voters in Cleveland Heights and as librarian and curator at Historic Lyme Village in Bellevue.
Anne is survived by her son Michael (Lisa Feinberg) McFarland of Cleveland Heights; foster daughter Gina Cherry of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren Lev McFarland, Malcolm McFarland, Nicholas Cherry, Justin Cherry, and Joshua Cherry; brother Tom Southworth of Cranston, RI; and sister Alice Southworth of Pemberville.
In addition to her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her sister, Jennifer Southworth.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be announced at a later date. Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue is assisting with arrangements.
