Anna F. Ruffing

Anna F. Ruffing, age 95, of rural Bellevue, OH passed away August 6, 2022. Anna was born April 27, 1927, the daughter of the late Frank and Theresa (Wurm) Shell in New Washington, OH.

She was a member of the former St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Bismark, and St. Gaspar del Bufalo, Marywood. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society at both churches.

She was a devoted mother and homemaker to her large family. Her greatest joy was watching her four sons, Urban, Donald, Leo, and Ed, play softball for Sutton Bank. She also enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play volleyball, softball, basketball, and football. Anna enjoyed canning, freezing, baking bread and pies, and cooking for her large family. Anna loved gladiolus, red roses, and hummingbirds.

She cherished many wonderful hours babysitting lots of grandchildren over the years. She enjoyed time with her special friend, Kathi Miller.

She is survived by four daughters: Theresa (Howard) Wyrick of Bellevue, OH, Joan (Sonny) Garrett of Tacoma, WA, Carol (Ron) Fluharty of Plymouth, OH, and Darlene (James) Borton of Port Clinton, OH; four sons: Donald (Cindy) Ruffing of Bellevue, OH, Kenneth (Barbara) Ruffing of Rockwall, TX, Leo (Jackye) Ruffing, and Ed Ruffing of Bellevue, OH; daughter-in-law, Kay Fox of Bellevue, OH; 12 grandsons; 12 granddaughters; 2 step granddaughters; 2 step great-grandsons; 2 step great-granddaughters; 5 great-grandsons; 6 great granddaughters; brother, Robert Shell of New Washington, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Ruffing, whom she married on June 8, 1950; son, Urban P. Ruffing; brothers: Joseph Shell, Tech Sgt. John A. Shell, killed April 8, 1946, in Japan and later buried at Arlington National Cemetery, and Richard Shell; sister, Bertha Kanney; and great-grandsons: Makyah Mark and Jonah James Braswell.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association, St. Gaspar Del Bufalo Catholic Church or donor’s favorite charity.

The rosary will be recited at 5:30pm on August 11, 2022, at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, OH 4481. Visitation will follow from 6:00-9:00pm. Additional visitation will be held from 9:00am until the funeral Mass begins at 10:00am on August 12, 2022, at Our Lady of Hope Church, 320 Stump Pike Road, Attica, OH 44807. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, 5589 Bismark Road, Bellevue, OH 44811.
