Alfred J. Flicker Jr., 80, of Bellevue passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 21, 1940 in Bellevue the son of Alfred J. Sr. and Eleanor (Herman) Flicker.
He was a 1959 graduate of Bellevue Senior High School. Upon graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps. during the Vietnam War Era. Al married Catherine “Kitty” (Lepley) Flicker on May 26, 1962 at Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue. Together they established Red Crest Appaloosas. Kitty preceded him in death in 1981. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company for 41 years before “retiring” in 2004. Never one to sit around, Al and his son John decided to enter into business together and purchased Cold As Ice Slide Thru in Monroeville, Ohio in 2008.
Al loved his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching their athletic endeavors, and especially enjoyed shooting targets, loading ammo and teaching marksmanship to his grandsons and granddaughter. He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League-Elton E. Mackin Detachment #837, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 83 in Sandusky, Erie County Conservation League, UAW, and Immaculate Conception Church.
Al is survived by his beloved wife, Betty (Payne), whom he married on March 5, 1983 at St. Michael’s Church; his children, John A. (Tammy) Flicker of Bellevue, Doug Payne of Green Springs, Lisa (Brian) Foos of Bellevue, Brenda (Lenny) Cvanciger of Medina, Diana “Dee Dee” (Ed) Hartman of Milan, Jill (Jim) Stubbs of Minster, Debbie Freeman of Green Springs, Denise Huntsman of Bellevue, and Cherri Payne of Toledo; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Gladish of Port Charlotte, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and first wife, he is preceded in death by his son, Michael Payne and brother-in-law, Jeffery Gladish.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A funeral Mass officiated by Father Kyle Gase will begin on Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
