Albert L. “Al” Valko, 94, of Bellevue passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022, at The Willows at Bellevue. He was born October 16, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio the son of Michael and Julia (Wagner) Valko.
Albert was a 1946 graduate of Bellevue High School. After graduation he served in the United States Army from October 1946 until March 1948. He returned to Bellevue and was employed 38 years at the General Electric Lamp Plant in Bellevue before retiring in 1985.
Al was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus Council #752, and the church funeral choir. Throughout the years he volunteered for Hospice of Memorial Hospital, as well as the Bellevue Hospital, and served as a church sacristan. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading, watching sports and being with his family.
Al is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna Theresa (Fritz) Valko, whom he married July 12, 1952, at St. Michael’s Church in Marywood; their 4 daughters, Susan (Greg) Englund of Bellevue, Cynthia (Howard) Coopersmith of Fort Collins, CO, Christine Ammanniti of Bellevue, and Theresa (Peter) Simons of Charlottesville, VA; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Marie Valko; 2 sons, Gerard and Edward Valko; brothers, Michael and Stephen Valko; sisters, Helen Bednar and Frances Karaba; and brother, Edward Valko in infancy.
Friends will be received on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin on Monday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. For those who cannot attend a recording of the Mass will be made available at www.icbell.org
