Alan Porter, 74, of Bellevue passed away Monday, October 7, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 22, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio the son of Jack L. and Colleen R. (Kelly) Porter.
Alan worked as a medical equipment technician. He served in the United States Army for 3 years. While in the United States Army he received several medals including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Sharpshooter Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Palm.
He was a member of the VFW, Eagles, and a lifetime member of the Elks. Alan enjoyed studying World War II history as well as building models from World War II. Music was a passion of Alan’s since childhood. He played the guitar and harmonica with his brothers and family. Alan had a collection of over 500 vinyl records which he displayed proudly having a music room in every house he lived in. Alan and Dede enjoyed traveling especially to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, she was the love of his life. He loved so many things but his family was his greatest treasure and accomplishment. He enjoyed spending time with all of them and loved them with all his heart, always putting them first even up until his last breath.
He married Diana (Pohorecki), on April 25, 1975; She survives along with their son, Tim (Molly) Porter of Bellevue; daughters, Camille (Steve) Nelson of TX and Gwen (Josh) Hamons of Bellevue; 5 grandchildren: Alicia, Alivia, Alexis, Brynlee, and Bexley; and three brothers: Terry (Alysan) Porter of Lancaster, David (Nancy) Porter of Middleton, and Tommy Porter of Georgia.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Tim, John, Jim, and Kelly.
A Celebration of Life was held prior to his passing at his home in Bellevue where many family and friends gathered to share memories with Alan. A memorial mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, Bellevue on Saturday October 19, 2024 at Noon.
