Albert “Al” T. Spoerr, 70, of Bellevue passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Firelands Regional Medical Center. He was born January 8, 1951 in Norwalk, the son of Frederick “Fritz” Albert and Faith “Irene” (Baker) Spoerr.
Al served in the United States Army 1971-1974, Vietnam 1971-1972 as an E5, gunner with the 48th Assault Helicopter Company. After returning to the states, he worked for some time as an Advanced E.M.T. for the Bellevue EMS and also as a Scheduling Supervisor at Sandusky Plastics for almost 30 years until its closure.
Al was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bellevue and served on the Day Care Board. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 490 and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Denver Broncos and Seneca East Tigers. Al was also a certified Pilot and had many interests, he enjoyed playing the guitar; writing and singing his own songs; golfing; fishing; playing cards every Wednesday with the “River Rats” and going to any event that his grandchildren were in to support them. In his earlier years he was very involved in a Men’s Softball League. Al loved to sit on his front porch, where he especially enjoyed playing the guitar and met many passerby’s as they enjoyed listening to his music. Al cherished the special time he got to spend with his wife, family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
Al married Diana (Durdel) Andrews on July 8, 1994 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fremont. She survives along with a son, Nathan Spoerr; daughter, Drehma (Ed) Phillips; mother, Irene Spoerr; 5 grandchildren: Michaela Herman, Koen Daviduk, Parker Spoerr, Mason Spoerr, and Aislyn Phillips; siblings, Judie Ludwig, Dave (Kay) Spoerr, and Sue (Jim) Jesberger; brother-in-law, Gary (Cindy) Durdel; sister-in-law, Linda (Vince) Gresh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Al is preceded in death by his father; brother-in-law, Steve Ludwig; and close friend, Dan Schwab.
Friends will be received on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. A memorial service with military honors officiated by Rev. Justin Jump will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 901 Northwest Street, Bellevue, Ohio 44811.
