Dr. Aileen Alice Wilson, 88, of Bellevue passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021at The Willows at Bellevue. She was born November 22, 1932 in Staten Island, New York the daughter of Albert and Elmi Leifert. Aileen married Richard Menzie Wilson in January of 1952 in Hoboken, New Jersey. She and Dick were married for 65 wonderful years and raised 6 children together. The Wilson’s spent most of their lives in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida before settling in Bellevue after some health problems later in life.
Aileen is survived by her children: Greg (Karen) Wilson of Ramsey, New Jersey, Gail (Michael) Winthrop of Brooklyn, MI, Sandra (Mark) Thurston of Pylesville, MD, Richard Wilson of Chester, NY, John (Lisa) Wilson of Bellevue, and Catherine Wilson of Laurel, MD; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Aileen is preceded in death by her sister, Elmi (Honey) Nelson; her parents, Al and Elmi Leifert; and her beloved husband Dick in 2017.
Aileen was a very accomplished woman, who pursued a career in education while raising her six children. Her education included an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, two Master’s, and finally she earned her Doctorate’s from Columbia University in New York. Aileen taught sixth grade for three years and then continued as the first female principal of Hillside and Brookside School in Allendale, NJ. Aileen also enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes. She was an excellent seamstress, embroiderer, and knitter. She hosted countless family parties for birthdays, holidays, and just to see her growing family. Aileen also earned her private airplane pilots license, with her son John.
The family would like to thank The Willows at Bellevue for the wonderful care of our parents the last few years of their lives.
Local arrangements are under the care of Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue. A celebration of Aileen’s life will be held in the spring in New Jersey.
