Agnes E. Bischoff, 92, of Bellevue passed away in peace with dignity and grace on Sunday, August 6, 2023, in her home with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 22, 1930 in Sherman Township, Ohio the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Wirth) Mahl.
Agnes graduated from Bellevue High School in 1948. She attended St. Vincent School of Nursing, Toledo, Ohio and graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. She was employed at Willard Mercy Hospital for 25 years, Huron County Public Health Department for 20 years, and retired in 1996 after serving as a professional nurse for 45 years.
For many years, Agnes was a member of former St. Sebastian Parish serving as a Eucharistic minister. She was a church organist at St. Sebastian Parish and Sorrowful Mother Shrine for 18 years. Additionally, Agnes was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Gasper del Buffalo, a member of Rosary Altar Society at St. Sebastian and later St. Gasper, and a life member of the following: St. Vincent Medical Center Auxiliary, St. Francis Auxiliary, Tiffin, Ohio, American Legion #547 Auxiliary, Veteran Foreign War Auxiliary, Bellevue F.O.E. serving as office chaplain for 10 years. She volunteered on the Huron County Election Board for 10 years. Agnes was an avid square dancer, and a member of FADS western square dance club for 25 years.
Agnes was the most loving and caring wife. She and Joe celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage together. As a mother, she exemplified a woman of utmost integrity and kindness. She instilled in her family her work ethic, spiritual life, love of life, and her unwavering support of their pursuits. Agnes was well known in the community for her long career as a registered nurse. Her fellow nurses, doctors, and patients had the upmost respect for her standard of care and professionalism and she in turn exemplified kindness, compassion, and respect for all her patients. Many recall her loving words and gentle care.
In past years, she and Joe made regular road trips to area casinos, where they were rewarded with many winnings and perks, as well as the reward of fun times with friends and each other. She spent her winters in Florida with her daughter Mary Jo and her family, a much-needed break from too many cold winters on the farm.
Agnes was an ambassador of good will and a kindred spirit to all she met. She spread her passion of nursing, care for people, and love of her family in her conversations and actions. Agnes had a strong devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary and praying the Rosary daily.
Over the years her past time activities included euchre games, water aerobics, square dancing, and completing 1000’s piece puzzles raised the level of everyone else’s enjoyment. One of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Agnes’s extraordinary love, strength, kindness, and compassion will be truly missed by her entire family and friends.
Agnes was blessed with 8 children, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Steven Bischoff of Bellevue, Kenneth (Marie) Bischoff of Monroeville, Robert (Carol) Bischoff of Westfield, IN; two daughters, Marilyn (Dr. Douglas) Geiger of Saline, MI, MaryJo Giles of Weston, FL; grandchildren: Philip, Dr. Andrea Bischoff (Kyle Behymer), Emily (Jordon) Coy, Eric (Brianne), Jeremy, and Nick Bischoff; Zachary (Dr. Farhana), DJ (Nell), Megan and Mathew Geiger; and Caitlin, Morgan, David III, and Patrick Giles; great grandchildren Elliot Bischoff, James, Audrey, and Evelyn Behymer, Noah, Blake, and Cecilia Coy, Zahir and Alexander Geiger, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marian and Ed Kanney of Shelby, Ohio.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Joe and her parents, 3 sons, Joseph Jr., Dennis, and Daniel Bischoff; brothers Harold and Richard Mahl, sister Catherine, and father and mother-in-law Leo and Catherine Bischoff.
Friends will be received on Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 3pm-8pm at Foos and Foos Funeral Service 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, Ohio 44811 where the Rosary will be recited at 3pm. A funeral mass will begin at 11am on Friday August 11, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroeville, Ohio. Burial will follow at St. Sebastian’s Cemetery with a luncheon.
Her family are eternally grateful to Eileen O’Brien, Valerie Phillips for their loving care, the dialysis nurses at Firelands Dialysis Center, DaVita Dialysis Center, Florida, staff at the Willows of Bellevue, and all of her physicians and nurses in Ohio and Florida.
