Ronald Smith Obituary

   Ronald Smith, 85, of Toledo passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at The Heritage Village of Clyde.  He was born June 7, 1932 in Bradner, OH the son of Paul H. and Vera (Widner) Smith.He was first married to Gloria Keefe, with whom he had four children and later divorced.  He then married Donelda Massie on September 5, 1964 in Monroe, Michigan, and fathered another son.  Donelda preceded him in death.  He is survived by his four sons: Jeff Smith of Decatur, AL, Brian Smith of Columbus, OH, Troy Smith of San Antonio, TX, and Doug (Ayumi) Smith of Ellicott City, MD; three daughters and step-daughters: Joni K. (Lee) Smith-Rode of Rio Vista, CA, Terri Smoyer of Inverness, FL, Lori (Al) Potridge of Gibsonburg, OH.  He is also survived by siblings Harold (Edie) Smith of Sylvania, Oh, and Carol Smith of Green Valley AZ; as well as two step-brothers, Glenn and Larry, and a step-sister Nona.  He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

   In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan; and sons-in-law, Scott and Joel.

    Ronald graduated from High School in Bradner OH, and served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.  He worked at the Bendix/Autolite factory in Fostoria, OH, and then entered the real estate business, where he earned the Graduate Realtor's Institute (GRI) designation, and eventually managed his own firm, "ron smith realty" for several years.  Later, he and Donelda worked as property managers in Bowling Green, OH, where they won several consecutive annual awards for having the best-maintained properties.  Ron was always an ardent supporter of all of his children's and grandchildren's academic and sporting activities, and late in life often said his seven children all his grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy. 

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to either the Diabetes Foundation, or the Alzheimer's Association.  

    Burial will be in West Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg on Friday, 4 May 2018.  Foos Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy., Clyde is in care of arrangements.
