Richard Whitely Obituary

Richard L. Whitely, age 81 of Bellevue, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Willows of Bellevue. He was born July 4, 1937 in Bellevue, the son of the late Clarence and Beatrice (Foos) Whitely.

Richard owned and operated Whitely Cardinal Foods with his late cousin, Jim Whitely. He later founded Down Home Foods alongside his wife, Sandra, until their retirement.

Richard enjoyed life to the fullest, from golfing and fishing to skiing and cheering for the Cleveland Indians. He also enjoyed boating, landscaping, and especially spending time with his family and friends. He also will be long remembered and loved for his sense of humor, humility, his big heart, and his ability to find a good bargain.

Richard served in the United States Army and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sandra (Wendt) whom he married September 16, 1972 in Sudbury, MA; a son, Michael Richard Whitely of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren: Keegan Baker and Elicia Caulder; sisters: Eileen (Larry) Braidech of Huron, and Marilyn (Tom) Lashway of Munroe Falls, OH; nieces and nephews and their families: Lori, Kara, Lisa, Mark, Sean, Todd, David, and Lisa; and brothers-in-law: Alan (Judy) Wendt of Dublin, OH, and Dean (Teresa) Pflaumer of Naples, FL.

In additions to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his sisters: Phyllis Whitely and Sr. Clare Marie (Helen Whitely) O.S.F.

Friends will be received Monday, July 30, 2018 from 2-6pm at Foos and Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue, OH 44811. Visitation will conclude at 6pm with a Celebration of Life Service lead by Pastor Diane Carter of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Friends and family will be encouraged to share stories and memories of Richard. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11am at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E Center St, Bellevue, OH 44811.
