Mark Stegman Obituary

Mark A. Stegman, age 57 of Bellevue, passed away March 25, 2018 at University of Toledo Medical Center following a brief illness.  He was born January 20, 1961 in Sandusky, the son of Delores (DeCaro) and Edwin Kern, and Richard E. Stegman, Sr.

Mark was in the Civil Air Patrol, worked at WNRR radio and was a member and President of the Bellevue Area Jaycee's during his teenage years.  He was part of the grounds-keeping committee at the Cherry Festival for some years.  He received his GED in 1980 and graduated from Terra Technical College with an Assoc. of Applied Science in Law Enforcement in 1986.  He completed the Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Program in Jan. 1987 and began work as a village police officer in Bradner OH.  He served as Wayne OH Police Chief from 1987 to 1990 and also served as a volunteer firefighter in Wayne.  He worked in Bairdstown Police as Chief from 1991-1993.  He also served as a reserve officer on Fremont PD and Bellevue Police Auxiliary and he held various loss prevention officer positions from 1993 to 1997.  Mark also had a desire to travel and received his CDL in 1995.  He was employed as a commercial truck driver from 1995-2001 then returned to his career in security.  He worked for Wackenhut Corp. with the Dept. of Homeland Security as a Federal Security Officer in Toledo, OH for several years.  After that Mark was employed at Whirlpool Corp. in Clyde OH for approx. 5 yrs.   He was Bellevue Pledge Center Coordinator for The Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. From 1985-1987; during the telethon days.  Recently, he was an avid NRA Supporter and enjoyed playing cards with his friends and neighbors at the Rotary Commons.

Mark is survived by his children: Christopher (Desiree Ratliff) Stegman of Clyde, Curtis Stegman of Columbus, and Caitlin Stegman of Bellevue; father, Edwin Kern of Bellevue; brother, Richard Stegman, Jr.; sister, Donna (Paul) Schaffer of Bellevue; grandson, Noah Stegman; former wife, Carolyn Stegman; uncle, Anthony DeCaro; Godparents: Carole (Zimmerman) Barone and Anthony Barone; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, especially beloved cousins: Melissa (DeCaro) Coles and Jeffery DeCaro.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Delores; father, Richard Stegman, Sr.; and brother, Thomas Stegman.

Friends will be received Monday, April 2, 2018 from 11am-1pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 285 W Main St, Bellevue, OH 44811.  A funeral service will be held following the visitation beginning at 1:00pm.   Rev. Steven L. Hensinger M.Div. officiating
