Joseph Sberna, M.D.

Dr. Joseph Gerard Sberna, M.D., fondly remembered as Joe, Big Joe, Grandpa Joe, or Doc Sberna , born on March 1, 1951 in Bellevue, Ohio, to the late Marjorie Sberna and Anthony Sberna, passed away at age 67 on August 11, 2018 in Terrace Park, Ohio.

A graduate of Bellevue High School in 1969, the University of Cincinnati in 1972, and the University of Cincinnati Medical School in 1976, Joe worked as a doctor at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, the Bellevue Hospital in Bellevue, Ohio, and the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Always willing to put others needs before his own, Joe spent his life caring for people, at work and at home.

Joe was the loving husband of Kathy, his wife of 42 years, and is survived by his six children, Joey (wife Elizabeth), Nick (wife Lindsey), Patrick, Emily (husband Jason Uebel), Jake, and Doug; by his siblings, Ted, Walt, Margaret Welty, Grace Middleswarth, and Joletta Flannigan; and by his grandchildren, Hadley, Joey, John Henry, and Griffin.

Above all, Joe was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with wife, kids, and grandkids. He also loved hunting, fishing, gardening, birding, card games, crossword puzzles, reading, and following (i.e. grousing about) the Reds. Joe loved the peace and quiet of the countryside and found greatest pleasure in the simple things: good books, good meals, and good company. He will be missed dearly.

Friends and family members are invited to attend an informal gathering on Saturday, August 18 from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Terrace Park Community Building, 428 Elm Ave., Terrace Park, Ohio, 45174.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Joe s name to the Cincinnati Nature Center or the Ding Darling Wildlife Society on Sanibel Island, Florida, two of Joe s favorite places to spend time with his family.
