Donald L. Schrickel, age 84 of Clyde, passed away Monday, January 8, 2018 at The Bellevue Hospital. He was born November 22, 1933 in Clyde the son of the late Maurice and Mandella (Hofelich) Schrickel.

Don was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clyde and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont.  He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans, the NRA, and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1951.

Sgt. Schrickel enlisted in the US Army during the Korean conflict, serving honorably in 135th Field Artillery Battalion. He was then honorably discharged after he and two other Clyde servicemen were severely injured in a car accident while stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana. 

Don returned home from the army and briefly worked for the United States Post office before becoming an employee at Whirlpool. He retired from Whirlpool after 36 years. 

Don loved gardening and was known around Clyde as “the man with a yard like a carpet." In the 1950’s and 60’s he raised gladiolus and won several awards at local and national flower shows. As a child Don worked with his father at the family business, Schrickel landscaping. 

Don was also an avid hunter. He was the most proud of the 25 pound turkey that he bagged, and was recognized by the state of Ohio that year as having shot the biggest turkey in the state.

Don is survived by his daughters: Paula Renfro of Clyde, Mandy (Dr. Vincent) Sawma of Cincinnati, and Jodi (Tim) Adams of Marblehead; grandchildren: Alana Muzik, Beckie Contreras, Scott Renfro, Timmy Adams, and Betty Sawma; great-grandchildren: Claudia Muzik, Delilah Muzik, Jarret Renfro, Jayci Renfro, Stone Renfro, and Sofia Contreras; and brother, Howard Schrickel of Fremont.

In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his brothers: Edwin, Victor, and Vincent Schrickel.

Friend will be received Sunday, January 14, 2018 from 2-7pm at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy., Clyde. A rosary will be recited just before visitation starting at 1:30pm also at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 609 Vine St., Clyde. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
