Charles M. Mirtes, 92, of Bellevue passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky. He was born March 8, 1927 in Havana, Ohio the son of Joseph T. and Mary O. (Fries) Mirtes.
Charles was a 1946 graduate of the former Thompson High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Bellevue American Legion Post 46. He was employed and retired from the General Electric Lamp Plant in Bellevue after 35 years in 1985 and was a charter member of I.A.M. and A.W. Union Local 2159. After his retirement he worked in maintenance at Hardee’s Restaurant in Bellevue. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Eagles Aerie 490.
He married Lucille M. (Wurm) Mirtes on October 10, 1953 at St. Stevens Catholic Church in St. Stevens, Ohio. She survives along with their two sons: Gerald M. (Lynn Adell) Mirtes of Urbana, Andrew (Kate Graves) Mirtes of Bellevue; four daughters, Donna Goshe (Ben) Perry of Mancelona, MI, Janet (Thomas) Schafer of Norwalk, Ohio, Ruth (William) King of Bellevue, and Karen Mirtes of Columbus, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Schaffer of Norwalk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Mirtes and Norbert Mirtes; son-in-law, Michael Goshe; and sister, Mildred Schneider.
Friends will be received on Monday, June 24, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue where the Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. A funeral Mass will begin on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery.
