Robert Smothers, 84, of Bellevue passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at the Bellevue Hospital. He was born March 14, 1940 in McComb, Illinois the son of Eugene Smothers and Hazel (Warner) Bennett.
A career chef, Robert loved cooking even after his retirement as Dietary Director at Dunlap Hospital in Orrville, Ohio. He especially enjoyed trips to hunting camp in West Virginia with his homemade BBQ grill. A lover of spicy foods, Bob enjoyed perfecting his own hot sauce. Bob loved a good, clean joke as well as fishing. Bob played the tuba in the Marine Corps Band, he loved classical music and played in the Santa Barbara Symphony in California.
He was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved reading the Bible and sharing what he read.
Bob married his wife, Katherine (Green) in 1991 in Bellevue. She survives along with his son, Joseph Smothers of California; daughters, Stephanie (Jim) McKinley of New York and Debbie Smothers of California; 3 grandchildren; and a sister, Connie Smith of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received Saturday, Aprili 20, 2024 from 2pm, until a memorial service begins at 4 pm. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5014 Hayes Avenue, Sandusky. A funeral dinner will follow at the Bellevue VFW Post 1238. Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue is assisting with arrangements.
